Welcome to the spring 2021 issue of MDAdvisor. We are now a full year after we introduced our redesigned digital issue that focused on the novel coronavirus COVID-19. With our nation’s vaccination program well underway, I am cautiously optimistic that we are heading into better times. We are so grateful for all of the experts who have weighed in over the past year by participating in our podcast interviews and writing articles to educate us on the most pressing public health issues, guidelines and recommendations.

COVID-19 continues to be the predominant topic of the healthcare community. Our current issue includes articles on increasing public confidence in the COVID-19 vaccine, the ethical issues relating to vaccinations, and an interesting case report on a rare complication of the COVID-19 nasal swab test. We also bring you two podcast interviews regarding the role palliative care specialists have played in helping providers and families navigate this past year.

One bright spot amid all of the challenges we face is the opportunity to congratulate and celebrate the 2021 EJI Excellence in Medicine Award recipients and scholarship students. It has been a pleasure and an honor getting to know them, and I hope that their columns included in this issue will help you to learn about their incredible talents and accomplishments.
